About VITA'S GARDEN
In the forgotten corners of the crumbling city, little Vita clings to whatever bits of beauty she finds on the streets. Others fail to see the miracles all around until a mysterious box of chalk helps Vita bring a little hope to bloom.
CELEBRATE TAP WATER VICTORIES!
A Drop of Life is pleased to announce victories for tap water across the nation. Many bottled water corporations buy public water supplies and sell them back to us for a steep profit. Bottled water unnecessarily adds to energy consumption and plastic production, and the final product is often repackaged tap water. There are also unseen health risks related to the plastic bottles' chemicals contaminating the contents inside.
Recently, Brooklyn's own Park Slope Food Co-op, the country's largest co-op with over 12,000 members, has discontinued the sale of bottled water. This is a major step forward for activists all over the country. We hope that more local stores and businesses will discontinue the sale of bottled water.
In an editorial last month William R. Brody, the president of Johns Hopkins University, lambasted the use of bottled water, citing environmental, economical, health, and water rights concerns. He announced that his office will no longer be supporting bottled water companies, stating, "Effective immediately, we are discontinuing bottled drinking water, eliminating disposable plastic cups, plates, and tableware, and wherever possible going back to using reusable supplies to serve snacks and drinks." This is a great indicator of changing attitudes and a victory for activists on college campuses.
